Most Resets Clear the Settings and Leave the Storage Alone

Her enquiry describes a reasonable action with an unwelcome result. A network drive she could not reach after moving house, where she "thought the new network was at fault, so I reset the drive — and I think this has reset the password so I cannot access it. The decode: what a reset touches, and why access is not the same as content

Why the move produced the problem at all: a network unit is found by an address on the local network. A new router hands out different addresses, so a unit configured for the old network becomes unreachable without anything being wrong with it — which is exactly what she was seeing.
