What we do with your data.

You are trusting us with a drive that may hold years of your life, as well as your name and number so we can get in touch with you regarding this. Below is an exact breakdown of what information we collect, our reasons for collecting it, for how long we retain it and what you can request us to do about it.

Last updated 9 October 2026.

// what we collect

Two different things.

Your contact information: name, email, phone, and a return address if we send a device back. This will be collected via the web-based diagnostic tool, the contact form, email or phone.

The contents of your device: a recovery means reading all of the data stored on your device’s media, since we have no way of knowing ahead of time which sectors contain your files. We do not browse it, index it or use it for any reason other than returning it to you.

Defending a legal claimOur legitimate interests

Where a device holds personal health information or other “special categories” of personal data, we process it as necessary for the establishment or defence of legal claims, or with your explicit consent.

// who sees it

Who else sees it.

The recovery is carried out in-house. In other words, we don’t send your device off-site and we don’t provide any of the data from your device to an outside third party. Your device and its contents remain in the UK.

Four suppliers are required to deal with limited data in order for us to operate; these include our website host, our couriers for tracked returns (limited to name and address), our payment processor and accountant, and Google Analytics should you choose to allow it access. We do not sell any data collected here or share such data for marketing purposes. We will only release data when compelled to do so by law.

Google may export your analytics data to another country, under the UK addendum to the standard contractual clauses. None other than analytics data will leave the country.

What you can ask us to do.

You can request access to all the data we hold about you, correct errors in such data, have data deleted or otherwise removed from our records, ask us to pause using data, obtain data held by us in a format which allows it to be used elsewhere, object to the processing of data where it is being processed for one of our legitimate interests, and/or revoke your consent to the use of your data at any time.

You will need to contact us at Forsyth House, Cromac Square in Belfast (BT2 8LA) by writing to us, or you can phone us on 028 9002 0144. We will respond to your request within one month and this service is free of charge.

If you think that we have got something wrong, you should let us know first so we can put it right. You can also make a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or ring 0303 123 1113.

// cookies

Cookies.

Nothing is set until you choose. One banner will ask you, once, to allow analytics. Your choice will be saved as one entry on your own device.

If you click agree, Google Analytics can tell us which webpages are most viewed and how users arrived at our site. If you decline, the script will never be requested: it is not loaded and then told to ignore you. The script will never try to find out who you are.
