// how it works

How our pricing works.

No guessing while talking to you over the phone, and no working on your data without your approval. All our data recovery services follow the same four-step process.

01

Free diagnostic

First, get a quote either by phone or using the quote form; next, bring your device in to us (you do not need an appointment) or send it by post (if you prefer); then, we provide a free diagnostic, usually within 48 hours, as to what failed, what can be recovered, and the cost for recovering them.

02

Fixed written quote

Before we start any billed activity, you will receive a clear, fixed-price quote from us in writing, and nothing we intend to do to recover your lost data goes ahead until you have approved it.

03

Only pay if we recover your data

On most of the jobs we do, you only pay if we recover your data; that way, there is no risk for you to have us take a closer look.

04

50% up front on repairs

Physical drive-level repairs will require matched donor parts and our bench time, so those carry a 50% down payment. The balance will be due only if we recover your data.

Frequently asked questions.

We are frequently asked these questions. If your question is to do with a specific device, then please follow the link to that device’s page in the table above.

All jobs begin with a complimentary report of what our diagnosis has identified. We usually complete this report within 48 hours. Next, a fixed quotation for recovery work will be sent. No billable work can proceed without your prior approval. Pricing may vary depending on the product/medium, but as a rough guide: memory cards & USB sticks: £250 + VAT; single drives such as hard drives, SSDs, and laptop and Mac drives: £300 + VAT; multi-disk RAID and NAS: from £500 + VAT; SAN or enterprise storage systems: from £1,250 + VAT.

No, all prices are given pre-VAT, and then VAT will be added at the UK’s standard rate. When we write out a quote for you prior to you committing to anything, that is your cost, including VAT.

Yes, for most jobs you only pay if we recover your data. However, there are three types of work where this doesn’t apply (physical drive- and card-level repairs, DVR and forensic recovery).

In the case of physical-level work (head swap, motor or platter work, board rebuild), in addition to requiring a matching donor part, these types of jobs require a lot of painstaking labour on our part and take a long time, regardless of whether we recover your data. DVR and forensic recovery jobs are just like this, taking many hours of our expert time regardless of success. For both of these types of jobs, there is a 50% deposit due towards parts & labour prior to beginning work on your job, with the balance owed only if we recover your data.

Free diagnostic results are usually returned within 48 hours. Simple logical recovery is often complete in a few days. Physical repairs and RAID or NAS rebuild times are longer and vary based on part availability and complexity. Your quote will include a realistic estimated time to complete. If you have deadline pressures we can also offer expedited priority service.

First, get a quote from us by phone or using our online form. Then bring your device to our office in Belfast at Forsyth House, Cromac Square, BT2 8LA, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm (no appointment needed), or post it to us with full insurance cover. We do not have a collection service, so these are your two options.

Only the drives are required. Get a quote, either via telephone or via our online quote form, prior to removing the drives from their enclosure and marking each with its corresponding bay number (drive 1, drive 2 and so on). The rebuild relies on this order. It is not necessary to include the NAS enclosure or RAID controller in your submission unless it is not possible to remove the hard disk drives from the NAS unit. In this instance, please send the NAS unit.

No. We do work on drives, RAID and NAS, servers, SAN, virtual machines and databases. Mobile phones and tablets are not part of our services.

We deal with all major brands: Western Digital, Seagate, Samsung and Toshiba for drives; QNAP, Synology, Netgear and WD NAS; Dell, HP, IBM and Lenovo for server hardware; and, from a business standpoint, VMware, Hyper-V, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL and Exchange.

No. When a hard drive is mechanically failing (making clicking noises, not spinning up properly, dropping off), recovery software will continue to run it and almost always causes more damage. Shut it down. Get a quote. Send it untouched.

Yes, so long as the password/recovery key is given to us. We will recover the encrypted volume and use your recovery key to unlock it. Without a working recovery key, forensic decryption can be attempted but is never guaranteed to work.

All recoveries are completed internally by our staff engineers as part of our data recovery service in Belfast. All devices remain under our control throughout, and your data will remain private from the time we receive it through to when it returns to you.

// still not sure?

Firstly, take advantage of a free written diagnosis. We’ll advise exactly what can be recovered, plus the cost involved. At this point, you’re able to decide if you’d like us to continue. Obtain a quote first, either by phone or by completing the form, and then bring your device in to us in Belfast (no need for an appointment) or send it by post with full insurance cover.
